Lumière from Beauty and The Beast
Full Name: Lumière
Debut: 1991 Disney film Beauty and The Beast
- Servent in Beast’s castle.
With the “Be Our Guest” premiere a few months away who better to highlight than the funniest and our favorite candelabra Lumière! Lumière made his debut in the 1991 Disney film Beauty and the Beast. A slender fair skinned castle servant to the prince turned hilarious gold servant candelabra to Beast; Lumière is a an important member of the prince’s council and a first-class showman. He was placed under a curse when the prince refused to let a begging woman spend the night in the castle. His fate as a candelabra lasted a decade until the prince learned to love someone more than himself.
Lumière is quite the rebel among his other servants, Mrs. Potts and Cogsworth as his disobeys Beast’s commands often. However despite his rule breaking nature he remains one of Beast’s closest companions. Throughout the movie you will see Beast turn to Lumière for guidance, a true friend in the time of need. His kind-hearted companionship extends beyond just Beast, as he befriends Belle the moment she steps foot in the castle. Something we all can appreciate is Lumière’s bluntness, he tells it like it is and does not care if it is offensive. We all need a Lumière in our life
One of my favorite parts of Beauty and the Beast is when the dining room sings Be Our Guest. Before the song Lumière introduces the dining room with this famous quote:
- “Ma chère mademoiselle. It is with deepest pride and greatest pleasure that we welcome you tonight. And now, we invite to relax, let us pull up a chair, as the dining room proudly presents… your dinner.” – Lumière
Lumière was quite the character in the 1991 film and I anticipate he will be a crowd favorite when Be Our Guest releases in March. However don’t expect the same cartoon animated candelabra for the 2017 live action film. Take a look at live action Lumière who will make his debut on March 17, 2017.
