Happy Birthday Mickey and Minnie Mouse!

It’s hard to believe on this day 88 years ago the mouse that started it all debuted in “Steamboat Willie.”  Did you also know that today is Minnie Mouse’s birthday too? To celebrate 88 wonderful years, here are 20 interesting facts about M-I-C-K-E-Y (and Minnie) M-O-U-S-E:


  1. Walt Disney’s wife actually came up with the name Mickey.
  2. Steamboat Willie was the world’s first cartoon with synchronized sound.
  3. Although you never see a wedding between Mickey and Minnie Mouse, the two are in fact married.
  4. Mickey Mouse’s first words were “Hot Dog.”
  5. The fact that he only has 4 fingers saved Walt Disney both time and money when creating the short films that stared Mickey.
